Finally back on the road again, with a brand new single and album to promote, new wave electronica band Grafton Primary has had one busy tour. Kicking off last month in their home town of Sydney, brothers Benjamin and Joshua Garden have finally landed in the Sunshine State to treat their welcoming fans.
Fresh from performing at the Nemcatacoa Festival in Bogota, Colombia, Grafton Primary have successfully welcomed their latest single The Eagle to eager Australians. Jetsetting across the country with slots at the Open Arms Festival and Fat As Butter, sleep is obviously for the weak as another whirlwind tour has almost come to an end for the brothers.
Almost hidden away, located upstairs above several boutiques, Brisbane’s The Zoo is one of the more favorable venues around. Its majestic surroundings and unique sound add that much more to its intimate vibe. Obviously venues must have rules in order to operate smoothly. However, proudly promoting the use of kind gestures such as ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, patrons bear smiles wider than humanly possible.
As the venue filled, Infusion took to the stage with one intention. Giving off a strong Soulwax/Simian Mobile Disco vibe, it was near impossible to stand still throughout the set. As if the crowd were under some sort of spell, the sheer energy delivered from the three-piece and their several synths captivated the audience to extreme heights. Currently recording a new album, it would be strongly advised that you do not miss these guys in 2011.
Independently releasing their EP Relativity in 2007 and album Eon in 2008, the band had plenty to work with. Storming The Zoo with authority and blasting through an array of tracks from their discography, great praise was given towards a handful of brand new songs. Sampling the future album here and there throughout the set, the crowd happily bounced along to the unknown sounds with pleasure.
Flying through hits such as We Are The Music, Relativity, All Stars and personal favourite Change, their infectious beats and melodic hooks, with outstanding on-stage dancing, are a true sight to see. However, it was the most recent single The Eagle which created the greatest chaos from an over worked audience.
Eventually leaving the stage after an outstanding encore and drowned in applause, Joshua and Benjamin must be proud of how far they have come. While 2011 looks outstanding for the duo, for an act to generate this much appeal and respect in just five years is quite unheard of. With summer in sight, expect to hear more and more from Grafton Primary.
