Scorching forty degree heat. Sunglasses. Corona with lime in my hand and on board the pristine Starship with an impressive techno line-up. This was the ideal equation for Saturday 5 February – the day of the AGWA Yacht Party. As soon as the ship took off, the fine tunes began to burst. Not a dull face in sight! Having three levels, and only being on board for five hours, I must admit that it was difficult to keep put on one level for too long when there was so much space to play.

I found myself first on the lower level, where Canadian duo Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow of Art Department spun an awesome set. Aligned with the sound of the underground, they produced some fresh techno, while also pulling the crowd in with familiarity, by dropping a techno remix of Empire of the Sun’s We are the People.

Venturing to the top deck, my ears experienced the talents of UK DJ Pete Herbert. His style created a feel-good vibe, complimentary to being drowned in sunshine and a nice sea breeze. Although his set began with some upbeat techno (occasional smooth vocals on tracks included!), he flawlessly morphed his set into a range of exciting nu-disco.

I was most curious to see Lazarus. I’d listened to the scope of his style before and having read reviews on his latest release for Fabric, I was interested to see whether I would have been swaying to his set, or dancing enthusiastically amongst the crowd.

But I probably should have known what the outcome would be. The owner of Crosstown Rebels had the floor pumping. His energy on the decks and enthusiasm raised the crowd into an incredible level of excitement. One of the most memorable moments of his set was when he dropped the Jamie Jones remix of Green Velvet’s Flash. The crowd went insane!

If you can stand an occasional sway (inescapable on any boat!) and you’re a up for creating an unforgettable summer memory, then I strongly recommend that you make sure you get yourself a ticket for the next AGWA Yacht party. There was loads of space to move with plenty of indoor and outdoor space and the tunes were incredible. One of the top events on my summer parties to-do list!
