Checking in at the Bowler Bar a few ticks shy of midnight, the writing was on the wall. Literally – the club’s every surface (patrons included) being littered with small white circular stickers featuring the Flight Facilities logo. And if their MySpace page can be trusted and the Flight Facilities are influenced by “abstinence, sobriety and silence” then influence was to be found in short supply. The place… was…sideways.

With our captains (suitably attired in an aviator cap and leather flying hood/goggle combo, respectively) positioned in the cockpit behind the CDJ 2000s and a large CD wallet, a lone trumpet blast marked the imminent 0030-hr departure.

Sixty seconds later, to a club bordering on fever pitch, we had lift off to Flight Facilities’ latest release, a remix of Cut Copy’s Take Me Over. The place went mental. Super, freaking, unbelievably mental. Until arrival at our destination 90 awesome, sweat-soaked, radical minutes later, that’s how it stayed. There were hoots, hand-claps, hands in the air, lots of spilt alcohol, dancing on couches, dancing on (and I do mean ON) the bar, dancing in the little men’s room, dancing out in the smoking garden and dancing everywhere else.

Considering the majority of patrons present (Flight Facilities included) had spent the previous twelve hours at Future Music Festival, I am impressed at how energetic and involved the crowd remained. Chalk this up to all-round great DJing by the Flight Facilities. Looking comfortable and confident at all times, our captains produced a well balanced set of disco-house, nu disco, indie dance, funk, and a few timeless classics.

What did the damage? Every record played. Showing great track selection and understanding of flow, our captains had the crowd up in arms every touch of the mixer. To name a few, the Jimmy2Sox & Air Jordan remix of Toecutter’s Best Party Ever, Bag Raiders’ Shooting Stars (Siriusmo Remix) and Snake Charmers, The Twelves remix of Two Door Cinema Club’s Something Good, Daft Punk’s Technologic and Mike Dunn’s Phreaky Mother Fkers were all popular.

The overwhelming crowd favourite would have been Flight Facilities’ sexy original Crave You. My personal favourite would have been Flight Facilities atmospheric remix of The Lowbrows’ Dream in the Desert. Although John Paul Young’s Love Is In The Air and The Beatles Shout left me with an ear-to-ear smile.

As a side-note: do yourself a favour and go check out the Bowler Bar. I cannot speak highly enough about the joint. The place is downright rad. It is a club owned, designed and run by dance music lovers for dance music lovers. And disco and indie dance have never been so awesomely at home. What more do you need to hear? Get there…

…And when you do, come find me, tap me on the shoulder, tell me to go home and get some rest. After all, it’s only my body that will be leaving. My mind probably won’t be able to.
