The hottest ticket in town on Saturday night was that which gave you access inside the Hordern Pavillion in the Moore Park precinct. I was lucky enough to get a free ticket into this event via inthemix, who I must thank for getting me inside!
The line-up featured names such as Kai Tracid, Dummonde, Kutski just to name a few, and covered the three forms of harder edged dance music which I’ve come to love; Hard-Trance, Hard-dance and Hardstlye.
Upon entering the doors of the Hordern I was pleased to see the stage design had made it easy for all the party people to get a glimpse of their favourite artist. Kai Tracid was the first international DJ I got a glimpse of and he played a great warm-up set which set the tone for the night. Beginning with a selection of progressive trance tracks which got the growing crowd up of their seats and onto the dance floor strutting there stuff in appreciation of Kai Tracid’s set.
As Kai Tracid is one of my favourite DJs I pushed my way to the front of the arena so the hard trance was right in my ear. When he played his classic Trance & Acid I went nuts and so did the rest of the arena.
Next up was Dummonde who played alongside DJ Nervous also known as Simon Coffey and this set contained plenty of Euphoric Trance which kicked the lasers into gear. The lighting was spectacular all night, but especially during this duo. Numerous times they would turn the spotlight onto the crowd with MC D screaming to the audience to raise their hands to the ceiling which the packed crowd obliged to. This looked awesome.
Dummonde played his own track Tommorow’, which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed. The effort people put in to the way they dressed for the evening needs to be highlighted. Some outstanding costumes. There was people dressed up like Rocky Balboa, Luke Skywalker, even Gargomel. People wearing the scary mask out of the movie Scream. Showing that the people wanted to contribute to making this night extra special.
It was the Ferris Brothers of *Pee Wee *and John up next and they didn’t slow things up. I went to sit at the back of the arena in the grandstand to get a different view of the colour and all the people and it looked superb. The crowd now was full and the lasers in full swing. When they dropped the hard trance version of Satisfaction’ it had me and everyone else bopping around in their seats loving every minute.
Now was time for ring announcer John Demicoli to introduce the hard dance battle between Kutski of England and the Australian duo known as BRK3. This was a hectic battle and one which was very hard to split. I’d probably say the crowd reacted more to Kutski’s selection of banging hard dance but no doubt BRK3 didn’t dissapoint with there own unique style.
The rest of the evening was loaded with hardstlye. I was lucky to catch a glimpse of some of Zatox and Stephanie, hitting those high screeching sounds which we’ve come to like with hardstlye and the hard bass lines which go with.
An amazing night of hard dance music appreciated by all. Apart from a few technical difficulties the production team for Magic City didn’t put a foot wrong. Thumbs up crew.
