After recently rocking the foundations of Splendour, British indie-dance group Does it Offend You Yeah? finished off their Australian tour in Adelaide. Playing on a Tuesday night at the ever-popular ‘Gov’, the turnout was respectable for a weeknight and those in attendance treated it like a weekend.

While the crowd were mingling pre-show, mashup DJs Purple Sneaker DJs got the crowd in the party mood, throwing down party hits like they were going out of fashion. The mosh slowly grew and by the time the main act arrived, the place was ready to jump.

Right from the first song, The Wrestler, lead singer James Rushent wowed the crowds with filthy language and disregard for anything but partying. After a few pumping songs, the crowd was lulled momentarily with a rendition of We Are The Dead – and by lulled, I mean still went nuts.

The energy in the room was electric, mixed with pumping songs, such as Let’s Make Out and Pull My Insides Out, along with a psychedelic light display. ‘Crowd pleasing’ would be an understatement. The team from Reading had the crowd clapping, swaying, jumping, moshing, crowd surfing and basically running amok. This came to a head when during The Monkeys Are Coming several crowd surfers were tossed out by security!

In what was a good mixture of tracks from both albums, Rushent and the crew certainly were in the mood to keep the place up and about. The electro certainly fit the mould of the venue and crowd, while the acoustics were clear and concise, making the music clean and crisp.

Highlights for the night were a surprisingly slow and emotional start to Dawn Of The Dead, which turned into a foot stomping, head banging version of We Are Rock Stars and the encore of the crowd favourite Epic Last Song, which was indeed an epic (second to) last song, before new hit single The Monkeys Are Coming closed out the set. In an encore we were treated to local Coopers beers from the band, which seems to be a tradition for all gigs at The Gov.

In a set which displayed their versatility and ability to work a crowd, Does It Offend You, Yeah? turned what would have been a quiet Tuesday night into one of the most thrilling and energetic gigs I have seen.
