Trance popularity has grown in momentum in recent years, with every recent festival line-up featuring at least a handful of big names on the bill. However, when it comes to smaller club tours and nights, I believe that fans are left with a little more to be desired.
Andy Moor’s AVA tour was a perfect example of this; the supporting acts were brilliant, the venue is possibly the best for trance acts and the lasers were magical. However one key component to any music event was missing…where were all the people?
Arriving at 9:30PM, half an hour after the official starting time, the dance floor was pumping with good tunes which only about 3-4 people were actually listening to, it’s rather depressing to see such a huge club that Metro’s City is, completely empty with music blasting.
Hitting 10:30 people started shuffling in to hear Jason Creek hammering the dance floor with some seriously good tunes. Playing the likes of Kate by Arty, and a simply breathtaking mix of Belong by Spooky (Sasha Involver Remix Prankster Edit). If there is one point that needs to be stressed, it would be how amazing Perth trance talent is, Jason Creek is a prime example of this talent. Why doesn’t he have his own regular club gig/tour already?
The Marlo/Creek/Cube combination continued well into the night with the crowd reaching a somewhat substantial peak just before Andy Moor arrived on stage at 2am, which was way too late for a main act in my opinion. Was it worth the wait? Well with flashing lights, dazzling lasers and thumping beats Andy Moor’s performance was sufficient enough to entertain the audience for the remainder of the night, however there was no euphoric peak or colossal ending to the act.
The whole performance seemed lacking in focus and energy, perhaps a part of this feeling was due to the slowly thinning crowd, to be truly honest the supporting acts namely Jason Creek and Marlo stole the show. If only there were more people during their sets then the night would have been more entertaining and felt less prolonged.
