Sweetchilli the monthly party of Progressive, Funk, House and Breaks has once again passed. If you missed it for shame, but fear not its on again next month.
The night started off at 10pm with many friendly faces returning and the soccer on the telly. If you think soccer is good to watch, well you should watch a game whilst DJ Alex Mac is mixing it up and the beer is flowing. I was pleasantly surprise to watch the soccer on the big screen whilst the party was starting to heat up. Yay England!
Meanwhile Daniel was starting to draw people into the back room like ants to sugar, with the power of Progressive House. I definitely felt myself draw to this room during the game on several occasions and I ended up missing the end of the match due to this very fact.
When the clock struck midnight Mr. Korbel took to the turntables and was welcomed with smiling faces and quite a few cheers. Ben Korbel turned up the heat in the back room and started to put more tough progressive tunes out for the crowd to enjoy.
Morph once again proved why hes at the top of his game by creating a thoroughly exciting and enjoyable atmosphere for the punters to groove in. He struggled with a few troublemakers as they kept bumping his gear, but in the end he made the environment in the back room match that of the music, funk-tastic.
At 2am Trent Anthony took to the decks. at this point I ventured out to the front room to check out Mark Dynamix play a Funky House set, smothered with glorious breaks. Trent Anthony kept the backroom absolutely pumping to my knowledge as I had many a friend try to drag me back to the progressive room, however I was glued to the front room due to a love of Break-beat.
Between 4 and close, after Trent & Mark had finished their sets, Crispin took to the back room and Paul Flex took to the front room. After many a larger at this stage all I know is the vibe was kept alive very well. I had a bit of a groove in both rooms and was very happy to do so. However at this stage in the game attention was lacking and I started to socialise with mates. Some nice fella ran around like a gentleman handing out chocolate cake as he was apparently celebrating / mourning a friends farewell, by the way nice cake!
The night finished as it always does with many very content and happy people marching up the Dendy’s steps and out into Martin Place.
Sweetchilli at the Dendy Bar in my eyes comes across as the most welcoming club in Sydney. The staff, organisers and punters who go, all radiate such warmth and hospitality. I feel this is due to the shared passion of Progressive music and the familiar faces the turn up each time.
Sweetchilli is a monthly club night that stands up and screams “Hell No, Progressive will not Go!” It is well worth the trip and in my humble opinion the best regular night in Sydney. Sweetchilli Rawks!
