I love a live performance. Something so fresh and off the bat always gets me moving more so than most DJs. Good thing I brought a spare ass to Infusion at Sweet Chilli ‘cause I danced my butt off.
Sitting back at home listening to Infusion’s ‘starwater’ release on Adam Freeland’s Marine Parade Label (kindly supplied by BPM records), I was taken to reminiscing about the awesome night I experienced and pondered the fact that I must like progressive after all.
Arriving at the dendy around 10.30, I was presented with a queue reaching to the top of the stairs. Thinking this was an elaborate plan to give the impression that the Dendy was pumping I waited with baited breath until I managed to make my way through the front door to discover that the Dendy was, in fact, pumping. Not really sure what to expect from Sweet Chilli or progressive house for that matter I was confronted with a deep driving beat which I found had convinced my feet to break into a shuffle well before I had decided myself that it was time to dance.
The Sweet Chilli crew had set up shop in the main room giving the dendy a very different atmosphere from other events I had attended here. It had the feel of a private party arranged mostly for the benefit of the promoters and their guests and I really felt like a Sweet Chilli guest. The main stage was facing the entrance and was raised enough so that Infusion looked down on the crowd but still felt like another couple of punters. The Djs for the main room were hidden behind all the gadgets awaiting the main event, which really for me, put Infusion on a bit of a pedestal.
Robbie Lowe was living large on the turners when I arrived entertaining a fair crowd for 11pm in the front room keeping those feet alive with a vocal progression hinting on the housey side while in the back room Alex Mac played me some slightly fruitier house with a twist of lyrical lemon. Crispin busted out some darker driving bedrock style progressive which seemed to impact the crowd because the floors were filling up fast while in the back room Jilbert nicely surprised me with a breaks versus the deeper side of house set. I love DJs who break out of their particular style to accommodate the masses.
On to the main course and Infusion belted out a gnarly driving experience of beats, which more or less glued me to the piece of gum I was dancing on. I haven’t yet met a partygoer with a bad word to say about Infusion and tonight was no different. I got to hear my favorite Infusion track: – Spike (try mixing that with Starwater and see what you get). Infusion could sense that the crowd were really enjoying themselves and were luvin’ it too cause they hung around on the stage well after their finish time throwing some breaks and even some techno into their set, much to their and 300 punters delight.
Dom Tych went phat in the back room with a party vibe style of house (upliftus biggus) and had the room jumping until the wee hours while in the front room Daniel Crocetti nicely complemented Infusions display with a deep driving pure progressive set.
So into Martin Place my ragged crew bounced, chattering about how nice they felt in the atmosphere provided and already making plans to be front and center at the next Sweet Chilli. Off into the chilly winters morning we disappeared. Did I mention I love prog now?
