Well it had been some time since I had been to home and a lifetime since going to Sublime so I was keen to see how Lisa Loud went down with the Subbies crew.

For those who have never made it down to home, (a minority by now methinks), you should check it out. It is the K-mart superstore of nightclubs and Sublime on Friday has something for everyone. With no less than four rooms you can’t really be in enough places at once.

Upon entry the first thing I noticed was the abundance of glowstick wielding, high speed hard house lovers. This inspired me to look into the viability of setting up an illegal Glow stick factory in the garage. From the second floor of home, which overlooks the main room stage, the effect of so many glowing people was really trippy.

On the anniversary of his death, Elvis graced us with his presence (channeled via Nick Fish I believe) in the land of banging house before Lisa Loud, by busting a rendition of “A Little Less Conversation” while standing on the DJ booth. A very cool tribute I thought.

Unsure if Lisa Loud was going to satisfy the hard house appetites of the main room patrons her first track was kinda slower than expected. Our star for the night found her groove not three tracks in and belted out some gnarly tunes. If my guest wasn’t a shinning example of her efforts by not moving for Lisa’s entire set, (which is handy if you have ever lost someone in home), then the other thousand punters were.

When asked, the average punter said of Lisa loud, ” nice change from the normal Friday night sound”.

And when pressed, Lisa said, “I was nervous about playing hard house when I’m a tech house DJ”.

When asked what she thought of Sydney, with an ear to ear grin, she gasped “love it.” Brief but inspirational words from our guest. Although Lisa played an unusual set for home I think the majority of punters really enjoyed the change.

PeeWee was greeted with some anticipation, from those Sublime guests who weren’t as wrapped with Lisa Loud as I was, and he came through with the goods. Banging hard house tunes, for even the die-hard Sublime fan, were the order of the evening and PeeWee was only too happy to deliver.

Kid Kenobi rocked the breaks room with the lighter, bouncier styles including Arc en sil “The Juice”, to be followed by Q45 who played a bunch of finger lickin requests, such as Drumattics “Feelin’ Kinda Strange” and Criminal Element Orchestras’ “Put the needle on the Record”. Solid breaks performances from both Q45 and Kid Kenobi.

I didn’t really venture into beat-fix but cruised past a few times to hear some pretty hard sounds being squeezed out the doors.

Craig obey got sexy upstairs in the early morning with some tight scratching amongst some vocal house for those who hurt themselves going hard downstairs. At six am I had well worn myself out and with the approval of my friends we hailed a cab and disappeared into the cold winters morning, off to contemplate our evening and rub our feet.

Check out Lisa Loud. She was definitely worth the effort.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
