Melbourne’s Hip-Hop weekend started with a blast, Dj Vadim and Dj Cash Money put the weekend on the right track. On Saturday night the premier of Funkology erupted onto Order nightclub. With the likes of well known local talent of Dir-X from Urban Mixx Records, Banging Rap coming from H2O of Obese Records and finally some major scratching coming from Raqmup.

Funkology set a new pace in the Melbourne Hip-Hop scene. Local talent on display proved that they could mix it up, scratch it and rap away with the best of them. The atmosphere at Order nightclub was beyond belief as people danced away to old skool beats, Dir-X proved that old skool still had it in it. He showed Melbourne R’N’B fans what it was like ‘back in the day.’ The crowed loved it; the older people remembered the tunes and newbies experienced the stuff like it was back in the late 80’s.

H2O free-styled his way into the club and never stopped, with mind-blowing lyrics that seem to come from no where and take you on a journey of discovery flowed through his lips, as the bass up lifted you and you couldn’t stop dancing. H20 once again proved that Melbourne has the talent, you just have to look hard enough.

The last of this dynamic trio of Hip-Hopsters came in the form of Raqmup (pronounced Rack em’ up) and he surely did that. I would lie to say that I didn’t walk out of there astonished at this Dj’s capabilities of scratching and mixing, it was truly amazing to watch a person with such flexible fingers perform such an amazing set. Tune after tune kept pounding from US hip-hop to European and as always plugging the local talent with some fairly good Australian hip-hop. Raqmup knows how to get a crowd going.

Funkology did the trick and finished off an amazing hip-hop weekend with a blast, we can only hope that the next one will be as good. This is all coming from someone who doesn’t usually enjoy hip-hop; all I can say is “DAT WAZ DE BOMB.”
