The last night of the drum club at its successful mountain terrace home was well supported by the Perth Drumnbass massive. A few changes were evident for the event, with the fish tanks adding an interesting visual touch to the club. It seemed that the new owners had already taken over, though, with the Fhz signs lit up and all Drum Club signage removed.

Merlin and Dart kicked off the night with some solid tunes to coax the early crowd into the dancing groove. DJ Zinc’s Ska and Tommy Knocker’s All For Love rinsed out while the duo kept it rolling with tunes from the likes of Digital and Roni Size. The Club was filling nicely and the dance floor was moving, with 12 coming around and an eager DJ Frantik jumping on his spot.

Frantik was on fire from the beginning, dropping tunes with savage fader cutbacks devastating the Drum Club punters. Frantik needed no help in gaining the first rewind soon after, as he took the vibe up a notch, animating the crowd. MC X-cessive jumped up on the MC stage to help out Frantik as he swayed through basslines, cutting up the EQs and mixing the old with the new. Classic tunes were blended with new Hard Afro material, direct from CD. The amped up crowd made its appreciation known as Frantik handed over to an eagerly awaiting Kenny Ken, while Skibadee signed everything he could, before kicking things off in his original style, from the MC stage.

The Drum Club got its roof ‘blown off’ by the noise at the start of the set, most had come to see. So it was inevitable the first tune got rewound, this also allowed Skiba to kick off what seemed like 3 minutes worth of rhyming without taking a breath. When he did finally stop for a breath, Skiba took the time to highlight; even though the drumclub was moving ‘DrumnBass was here to stay’. Kenny Ken dropped a few plates off Bad Company’s Shot Down on Safari LP, in the form of Wednesday and Hornet. These huge crowd favourites helped to amp up the vibe even more. Kenny Ken mixed through the big tunes and most couldn’t escape the rewind touch, including a new remix of Everyman, a new Twist em Out remix, and some new Bad Company material which also got the Skibadee rewind approval

More rewinds and more new tunes from Shy FX, Dillinja’s new Nitrous remix and a new remix of Bad Company and Rahwill Kru’s Start the fire. Skibadee kept it going until the end and, even then, found time for more: the last tune turned into the last four tunes, with some fresh Skibadee material off CD getting live backing vocal treatment from the man himself. A top way to end a well appreciated set. Kenny Ken and Skibadee impressed Perth again and, it seems, it won’t be too long before they are back to enjoy the guaranteed party Perth always offers.

Frantik stepped up for round two around 3:15 as former DrumClub frontman, Elhornet, was Missing in Action, rumoured to have gone under cover due to some bikie heat. Frantik kept the ravers on the dancefloor and, after a few tunes, even took the vibe back up again as people started to come back into the club from a quick breather. MC Assassin and Sev also chipped in to help out Frantik as he held his own with enthusiastic mixing and upfront selections. He kept it going until after the night ended, closing the curtain on the Drum Club in Mountain Terrace. Not before a successful stay at the venue and a packed out last night.
