CHANGE CITY :

DJ Wag @ Progress, Sydney (22/03/03)

Created On July 24th, 2004 by LittleSarah

It was a cold and rainy night outside, but as I walked into Gas it was hot, steaming and packed to the rafters. The shoeless goddess Bexta had whipped the crowd up into a furious frenzy spinning crowd pleasers such as S.H.O.K.K’s remix of “City to City” and the 2002 remix of “Energiser” which had the crowd screaming and whistling for more.

At around 1:20am the calm and relaxed DJ Wag stepped up from behind Bexta as she dropped Arome’s “Hands Up” which rocked the foundations of Gas. As Bexta slipped on her shoes DJ Wag hardly gave the crowd a chance to catch their breath, before throwing on his first track “The Beat Just Goes” by Pro-Active (an alias of DJ Wag).

Sweat dripped from the ceiling as the punters danced like I have never seen before to some of the biggest songs of last year. As the friendly atmosphere continued Wag sipped his champagne while he smiled in appreciation as the crowd went off to Dark Monks “Insane”. When I thought it couldn’t get any better than this, Wag decided to crank it up a gear as he threw in the crowd favorite, Derb’s remix of “Cocaine”. This sent both the older and younger members of the crowd insane! I turned around and saw hundreds of smiling faces and clenched jaws beginning to open up to mouth the word “Cocaine!”

Being the man of the night many of the admirable fans jumped up on the stage to shake hands with one of the biggest names in hard trance, who returned the handshake with gratitude. He was also more than happy to show his record covers to the lovers of his music so they could return home to purchase some of the amazing tracks that were played.

His mixing style was unlike most hard trance DJs with very quick transitions and not much beatmixing yet he pulled this off in style. He left most of the seats empty as the dance floor continued to grow. As the night went on he banged out a barrage of big tunes including “R” and “S”, the latest offerings from Wag’s good friend DJ Scot Project. In my view, and I am sure many others would agree, the track of the night was DJ Wag’s remix of “The Red Planet” which literally shook Gas as the people who were having the most fun migrated to the wall to experience the bass as it kicked in!

Overall the night was most enjoyable as all of the Wag fans united together under the one roof to show their appreciation for one of the best producers in the hard trance scene. It was obvious by the look on his face that DJ Wag had an equal respect for the Sydney crowd as he couldn’t keep that smile away. You could say that the whole night went off with a “Big Bang”!
