Do you like it hard. How hard? Bass Station Vs Plastic! That’s how hard! Welcome to Round 4! Ding! Ding! Melbourne & Sydney – In your corners please!

I knew that I was in for a night of Bass Station madness and Plastic did not disappoint that’s for sure. Bass Station is a primo club in Melbourne and has been hailed as the best dance club for “underground sounds” in Australia. Here Plastic was hosting Round 4 of Bass Station vs. Plastic – a DJ battle between Sydney’s Plastic crew and Melbourne’s Bass Station family.

Upon entering Tantra we were welcomed by the ever friendly door chicks. Next stop is to Scott’s department, Plastic’s “King of the Cloak Room”. Scott is always happy and friendly and so very good to us all. He guards our bags and coats with his life!

Nervous had already played and I was sorry I missed him. We arrived while Bexta was playing live which is always such a treat. Bexta always mesmerises me with her timing and talent and as a bonus you can always expect a few surprises when her “live” set is being played. Miss Bexta finished her set off with a chunky funky-ass remix of ‘Push It’ making way for the next Sydney team member.

Next up came John Ferris. Hard and tough was definitely the order of the day and hard it was! As John had already been to Melbourne for their Plastic VS Bass Station, it was Sydney’s turn to have our own John Ferris here where Sydney needed him most! He is brilliantly unpredictable which is a rare quality that impresses me in a DJ. He can make a whole new sound based solely upon a “feel” fused together with his own fresh blend of sounds and his wonderful “thunder-in your-body” bass lines!. When JF played “You’re Rude – Get Fucked” the entire club was bouncing! One of my favs. was “Definitely” -DJ Scott Project – remix by Yoda. Smiles all round!

Next up was Mark Owens another Plastic resident. The Melbourne/Sydney battle was looking good! Sydney was cranking some hard beats by now thanks to Mark Owens and his wild hard set. Mark’s charismatic personality and his great connection with the audience kept us totally focussed on the task at hand! Wow, what a set! And just when you think your brain is going to hit the ceiling he softens the blow by dropping in some nice melodies with the tunes “Just Be Good To Me” and “Everybody’s Free”.

OK MELBOURNE! Show us what you’ve got! And that they did! The original Bass Station masters from Melbourne began to drive us – harder, faster and tougher.

Master Kaos arrived just in time to try and save Melbourne! Almost straight away, the second track he spins is “Space Rock Terminator”; awesome! He kept the momentum going and effortlessly sustained those bangin’ bodies with his magic. Master Kaos was an exceptional artist on the decks!

Enter Julez. The Queen of Hard Acid and definitely the Queen of Cool. She has a huge fan base here and a big fan base in Melbourne where she now resides. She worked really hard – playing harder, faster, tougher and noisier. Julez exceeded all our expectations that’s for sure.
Unfortunately I didn’t get much of a chance to stay in the chill out room for very long but as usual “the padded cell” was beautiful and welcoming. Kemuri, Gatti & Solis took care of things in there and were perfectly “cast” for such a night.

So the winner is???
After careful and long deliberation, I have made my decision.

The WINNERS were us! All the punters that were lucky enough to be there at Plastic. These DJs gave their all and we gave them our undivided attention. Thanks Plastic – looking forward to Round 5.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
