Smirnoff ICE ITM Members Party @ Home, Sydney (26/04/03)

Created On July 10th, 2004 by syncronize

Home nightclub was once again the venue where inthemix members were treated to a night of good music and friendly ambiance – all for free. The line outside the club was unexpectedly long and as I made my way down the stairs, for a moment I thought I might have been too late to receive the privileges, but the entry to the club was well organised by the ITM crew and the fast/friendly security ensured our entry pretty quickly.

Inside was not as full as I thought it would be, however as the punters slowly streamed in it was only a short time before I found myself having a bit of a dance on the outskirts of the melting-pot dance floor. The tunes were being nicely pushed by John Devecchis, nothing too dark and heavy, just some nice house tracks that established a good floor plan to build on. I made my way upstairs into the cosy Eclectic Avenue where Pitty the Kid was mixing some good ol’ hip-hop, while partner in crime Mark Walton vigorously gave the wax a good work out with his delightful scratching abilities.

The terrace was yet to opened so I had a drink and a ciggie in the comfort of the lounges at the back of the front room. By now the crowd had grown considerably and Jason Bye was on the decks. I didn’t feel like dancing much at that moment but time and time again Jason delivers the goods. Before long I was in the thick of it, staring at the ceiling as the strobes are pulsating and everyone waiting eagerly awaiting for the track to peak. It was roughly around this time that I realised the abundance of ITM posters and visuals fixed on the many walls of the club. It made me think of exactly how many ITMers were present and the reason that we were clubbing on this night.

Back to the Eclectic Ave, the DJs had regularly been changing their positions and it was now Pitty doing the scratching and Walton controlling the beats. I could of spent a fair while just observing their style (like many were) but instead I just had to dance. The mish-mash of groovy breaks was too much and everyone’s feet were jumping, sliding and bopping. Further up Homegrown manipulated the funk in the Terrace. It was easy to build up a sweat and a few required a well-earned rest when Goodwill replaced him for the concluding chapter of the night.

The Front Room still had all the vibrancy and energy as I decided to leave half way through Alex Taylor’s set. Walking outside the club and receiving a complementary ITM CD, the spirit of the night dawned upon me. ITM has gradually become something far greater than a website. It is a chance to communicate and share the love of the scene, a means by where new acquaintances can be made and a source of encouragement for creativity and imagination. Personally and collectively a big thanks needs to be granted for all ITM members and staff for creating something unique which has gone from strength to strength and something that the our scene could not do with out. Cheers.
