She has been dubbed as the ‘Temptress of the Technics’ at the tender age of 21. She likes to keep to herself a lot, she used to have stage fright and she has no idea what the ‘Brisbane raver yellow ’ concept is all about but she thinks it sounds like an awful disease! She is DJ Chia.

Her style is firmly planted in the harder side of dance. She has occasionally been known to dabble in the likes of the more aggressive freeform genre however, Chia mainly plays hard trance to hard house sounding tracks, “I tend to fuse a combination of Hard Trance (UK/German/Italian) and Hard House into all my sets.”

While Chia’s musical roots go way back to her childhood, it was not always about dance floors and records. She had private piano/organ lessons for seven years when she was a little tot and then later on had a short affair with the bass guitar. During her teens Chia worked in a record store that specialised in punk/metal and industrial rock and considered herself quite the punk rocker. Then one day, a visit to a school friend’s house changed it all, “I visited a friends place from high school and he lived with his uncle who was at the time a DJ in the Brisbane psychedelic bush doof scene. I was totally tripped out by all the quirky lights/deco and people that would frequent the place and the music they listened to and that’s where my love affair with electronic music began. I ended up spending many weekends at that house.”

Chia’s performances are dynamic, charismatic and energetic – showcasing her unique ability to fuse several styles into one set to take control of the dance floor. This combined with Chia’s undeniable presence behind the decks and a blend of sexy attitude and immense energy, has won crowds over, and gained her a loyal and strong fan base around Queensland.

Chia has been a resident at Brisbane’s most popular hard house club The Beat as well as the Matrix, Morning Glory day club, system 6 and until recently the ever popular weekly club night 4 To The Floor (to which she will return when the club re-opens). You can be almost certain that you can catch her mixing up a storm playing at any of the raves held in and around Brisbane. As if this wasn’t enough, she has also been lucky enough to play alongside many of her favourite international artists including Ed Real, Tom Harding, Dave Randall, Anne Savage, Captain Tinrib, Karim and DJ Brisk.

She says that she plans to dabble in the production side of things one day, but is just waiting for the right time, “I know I will eventually, I’ve got itchy fingers and a head full of ideas but just haven’t made the step to get myself started. It’s a long-term goal so I guess it will happen when the time’s right.”

Nothing about Chia stands out more than her determination to succeed. One could say that she has already succeeded but Chia is determined to spread her wings and take her sound further than the confines of Brisbane. Obtaining a taste for interstate dance floors only just recently, Chia was a guest DJ at ‘Femme Fatale’ in Sydney’s Gas Nightclub, which is a club night that showcases an all-female DJ line up.

Chia is jetting off to Melbourne over the next couple of months to show the Victorians just how it’s done, appearing at Hard Kandy on July 24, Bubble on July 25 and Labyrinth on August 30.

You can catch her in Brisbane at Mezzanine ‘Deliverance of Bass’ on August 1.
