It appears Mark Walton was looking forward to Happy Valley; from all accounts he had a great time last time he attended, “All a bit of a blur, really.”
Mark is well known as a breaks DJ, playing regular spots at just about every club in Sydney. Most notably at the moment his residency in the ‘terrace’ at home has now finished. I asked Mark what we can expect from him in the future:
“Mmmm. Been thinking about that myself actually. Since I have finished my residency at home on Saturdays after two years I’m already missing what we call there ‘terrace beats’. Mark comments that we can definitely expect that sort of thing from him at up-coming event apperances.
Mark continues on the subject of clubs as opposed to festivals; “They both have as much significance as each other, really. You can have shit clubs orgood festivals, and vise versa. Lucky we’ve got the choice, I say.” And which would he rather be playing or partying at?
“Both. As long as I am playing,” Mark replies, with candour.
Mark has just returned from somewhat of a tour in the UK, including a set at home’s bigger, yet younger, brother in London. Apart from the parallels between the time he went to Happy Valley, and his time in England, how did home London compare to home in Sydney?
“I’m afraid Home London doesn’t compare to home Sydney. We truly have one of the most amazing rooms there and its been kickin’ shit all over the world since Mark and Sarah jumped the boat over here. Thanks guys for a truly amazing two and a bit years. Gonna’ miss those extra drink tickets.”
And now that the home residency has finished, Mark says he is “moving to Maui in April to do some serious button pushing in the studio for six months. Back in the summer to play on.”
Any word, then, on the new album?
“Funny dat. Got them in my hand as I type. ‘Wet Pants EP’ with four trax I did back in summer 2000. CDs coming out as well with an additional four trax which are more recent. They are available through Lateral Recordings and Distribution and will be in shops within weeks. The next EP contains a mixture of artists and future releases will continue to do so.”
