Junior Sanchez has come a long way since stealing his first drum machine in high school. He writes and produces his own music, collaborates with other artists, DJ’s and runs a record label…yet he doesn’t consider it as work, only sometimes. “It’s not work for me because it is not a nuisance, but I have to treat it as work sometimes.” Junior loves what he does and because it is a passion it isn’t really work for him. However, Junior believes that he hasn’t reached the pinnacle of success, or that anyone really does. “I’m still driving to reach musical plateaus.” Sanchez is looking forward to releasing his bands album, different artists on his label, basically growing, as an artist-he wants things to blossom.
Junior Sanchez has been lucky that he has never had to remix tracks that he hasn’t liked. He has worked with artists such as Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Felix Da Housecat and DJ Sneak, established his own label Cube Recordings and has produced music for a live electronic band- Output. There are many vocalists that he would love to record with and like most people he can go on forever listing names. Some included Bjork, Stevie Wonder and Kate Bush. “Prince is a favourite, he has done so much for music and artists, he is an absolute machine.”
Always surrounded by music, people are always at his house playing drums, singing or making some sort of instrumental sounds. He has a very broad taste in music and is not afraid to experiment with different styles of music. “there is a lot of good music out here, there is no pigeonholing music.” Junior “listens” to music- the strings, arrangement, style, his writing ideas are usually influenced by music that he listens to. “I listen to a riff, then I hum the melody, next thing is I’m writing a song, then it starts to make sense and becomes a topic.” Junior Sanchez also writes his own lyrics and sometimes writes them from a different perspective, such as a girl he knew who ruined her world on drugs.
In his spare time he plays basketball and PS2. His favourite games being Grand Theft Auto and The Matrix. Lately he has been working on his new production, the band Output. They are a live electronic/rock band and will be touring North America with Rapture and Arthur Baker. I wont be sitting in a bus eating Spaghetti O’s”. His favourite place to perform is England because even though they get tired of the same thing quickly, they get really into it. He finds something special everywhere he goes.
Junior is looking forward to coming down under and would like to see the Great Barrier Reef. He is going to relax in Australia as playing intimate gigs with the Cream Tour. His last words for his Australian fans are “Don’t expect what you expect, have a good time, be open minded because music is music. Australia is a place of musicality and times are changing.”
