It’s no secret that Infected Mushroom are the paramount of psychedelic trance music. Since their inception the pair have continuously exceeded above and beyond their boundaries, gaining the utmost respect and admiration for their innovation and creativity.
It is a mild spring evening in the month of November a blanket of dark thunder clouds laden the sky, ready and waiting to burst their rain upon the thousands of individuals that dance beneath them. You are in the bush and a duo namely known as Infected Mushroom take reign of the stage the crowd goes wild and so to does the weather. Illuminating the sky with every single strike, the electrical storm raging amongst the lasers and the landscape could not have come at a better time. The storm eventually surpasses and the sun slowly begins to rise. The moment can only be described as magical. “People said it was amazing, we actually couldn’t see it from where we were standing, but we did see how the crowed reacted to the show. We had a great time, enjoyed every minute of it, and we hope that every party we’ll have will be as good as that one.”
Erez Eizen and Amit Duvdevani, the two masterminds behind Israeli psytrance outfit Infected Mushroom, are no strangers to Australia. Last November witnessed the pair as the headlining act for the infamous Earthcore tenth anniversary party. There is no doubt that the duo have developed a somewhat growing love for Australia, most notably a significant respect and admiration for Spiro (of Earthcore) and the Earthcore parties. “Well Spiro is making great parties which are getting better and better each time that we come, he is very professional, and we hope that he will get bigger, the tenth anniversary was the best party we had in Australia.”
Evidently, the pair is extremely fervent to be headlining, alongside the Growling Mad Scientists (Ibiza/Spun), at the Cyberotica party in Sydney and the first ever Earthcore in the Park in Melbourne. Hoping that the sun shines and the people get naked the pair continues to elucidate exactly what it is that they love about Australia. “First off all the people, we like the Australians a lot, and also the weather and of course the parties are always good. We hope it will be very sunny and that people will be naked. We hope it will be a big naked party.”
Engaged by a worldwide touring schedule the pair has also been solidly working on original material in their newly renovated studio. “Well we have been quite busy, we’ve been travelling a lot, performing around the world and building a new and improved studio and mostly working on the new album. You can expect allot more vocals, full on, hardcore trance. It’s due to come out in September and a single will be out in May.”
With four successful albums under their sleave it is no secret that Infected Mushroom is the paramount of psychedelic trance music. Since their inception the pair has continuously exceeded above and beyond boundaries gaining utmost admiration and a reputable following for their innovation and creativity. Exemplifying such a notion is their latest album Converting Vegetarians, which witnesses the musical maturation and expansion of the duo spread over two very distinct and different discs. Conveniently named The Other Side, the second disc deeply explores the pair’s down tempo and soulful productions whilst containing a prominent essence of break beat influence providing something different to their fans expectations. “We are not trying to convert nobody, we are just want to reach as many people as we can with our music. After all this years we got a bit bored with trance so we’re trying to explore different kinds of music, to get inspiration and basically to do new things.”
So if they’re not trying to discreetly convert our tastes in music why the name Converting Vegetarians? “We were at L.A at a diner called ‘fat burger’ couple of years ago and it had couple of funny signs hanging there, and one of them said ‘converting vegetarians’ since…” and it made us laugh. So that’s it we just liked the sign.” The next six months sees the pair infecting crowds in places such as Japan, U.S.A and of course in their home country of Israel. The pair continues to give me their best advice for preventing and curing jet lag, “If you land in the morning don’t go to sleep until night, so you’ll get your hours straight, and if you land at night sleep for few hours and eat a lot of hummus and stuff.”
