Considered to be one of the pin up girls of the industry, Tidy Girl Lisa Lashes proves that she’s more than just a pretty face and that she means business in a usually male dominated world. Ready to head down under in April, Lisa lets us in on what she’s been doing since her last visit, what she has in store for Aussie dance floors, and all about that new car of hers.
Lisa Lashes is renowned within the dance music industry for her gorgeous looks as well as the banging breed of house she plays and produces. Jet setting across the world doing event after event I caught up with Lisa having just played the World Music Conference in Miami. Returning to the sub zero temperatures of Europe where she spoke to me from Scotland. A woman that’s only too keen to get down under this month, which is like a second home for the diva on decks, “Australia is great, I love the weather and it really is a home away from home for me as such, the people are great and every time I’m over there everyone’s so nice”.
Australian audiences can expect some awesome new sounds and tracks from Lisa as well as she has been ultra busy touring and in the studio collaborating with artists like BK. ” Usually a month before I tour the artists that I’ve collaborated get together and do some exclusive mixes and select what I’m going to take with me. I’ve never been a fan of cd’s so it’s a matter of getting tracks put onto test presses (vinyl). I’ll be playing a lot of new stuff as well as the stuff I’m known for as well”.
Being one of the leading ladies in the industry and signed to the Tidy Trax label though isn’t all glitz and glamour. Being a female in a usually male dominated industry hasn’t always been easy for Lisa. “I had to prove myself to a lot of people and men in the industry. A few times I even got comments like “Wow you can actually Dj”. Though being a female initially in the beginning was an advantage it has been about hard work, earning peoples respect and showing them that I’m not just eye candy”.
Though Lisa doesn’t see herself anytime soon returning to her old career previous to her illustrious ride on the dance music bandwagon. From working in bookwork and accounts for a large retail company to now touring internationally as one of the most successful women in the industry. Lisa is an inspiration for other women wanting to make a career. “It’s good to see more girls getting into it now and making a name for themselves. Though our luggage is always a bit worse than the blokes. I usually over pack when I’m going away for a few days and can’t live without my sunnies and hair products. I’m a real girl”.
Many would of late read that Lisa’s new purchase was the centre of some un wanted media attention. Her recently purchased car was that of former soccer star and sexual deviate Stan Collymore. “I actually was really surprised to see it on the news and within the papers. The media at first were showing photo’s of the wrong car. My manager and I had a good laugh about it though the car has been extensively cleaned by the dealer ship I purchased it from. So long as next time I’m parked some where I don’t get strangers tapping on my window”.
Australian audiences have always supported Lisa and she is looking forward to touring nationally throughout the country. Make sure you see Lisa you catch Lisa as she tours nationally throughout the month of April with a record box full of tricks and a heap of new material punters prepare to be rocked Lashes style.
