At 17-years old Jules Beaumont was so keen to start mixing that he stole a deck from a pub and bought a crappy mixer, all before he had even bought a record. He then went on to win DJ of the year at the 2000 DMA Awards, putting him in the spotlight for 365 days and spreading his name through the wires, which for a west coast boy is quite an achievement! Funnyman Jules could only crack jokes when asked how he got to be so big so fast, “I’m only five nine and a half!” Although not overly tall in stature, his funk driven styles of Hip-Hop and House, have reached great heights all round the world. Jules has had hands reaching high in the air at Space and Miss Moneypenny’s in Ibiza, as well as week after week when he held a residency at Sydney’s Home nightclub. He says he plays what he likes, drawing inspiration from all aspects of life, and it seems to work for him. Jules has played alongside the best at the world’s best clubbing spots, even been high-fived by legendary house DJ Danny Tenaglia on the terrace at Space, but he has turned down a residency in Ibiza this year. “Let’s just say I’m getting a little older and a little wiser. I’m well aware of what a summer in Ibiza can do to your life span,” he says. Instead, Jules has opted to spend his time at Chinese Laundry carrying out uncontrolled experiments. “The Laundry is like a small laboratory where I can go down tweeky tangents week in, week out. It is intimate and exquisitely weird in its wonderfulness,” he says. He didn’t say exactly what would be coming out of the laboratory, although he did say there are a few things under construction with hifi mike, but he did predict that roll neck jumpers will be a hit this winter! In amongst his chic picks and lab experiments, Jules has managed to keep game show audiences enthralled. Just recently he made carry over champ on Wheel of Fortune and he is short-listed for The Price is Right. “What can I say, it’s a timely career move,” he says. Don’t suppose they have a Dance Music category on Jeopardy? He tries to live his life with no regrets, and it seems he is doing a damn good job of it. So what’s next for our carry over champ? Best place to find out is at the Chinese Laundry. Week in, week out, Professor Jules will be churning out all sorts of musical mischief! Jules Beaumont is a resident at Good Vibrations and will be helping the club celebrate its 3rd Birthday this Easter Long Weekend, Saturday April 11. For more info on the party check out ITM Whatson.
