He is the Goose that spaded the Golden Egg. But even more importantly he is one of Sydney’s hottest up and coming DJ’s and he is preparing to play his biggest gig yet, Transmission. And a nostalgic one it will be, he says, as it was the first big party he was taken out to back in November of 2000 when it was held at the Metro. This time round there will be a few thousand more punters and he will be behind the decks, and he is damn excited about it, to say the least. DJ Goose will be playing B2B with Requiem in the first set of the night. “We will probably start off on the driving/uplifting trance, progress to some melodic hard trance and then build up to some harder and faster sounds,” he says. The young Goose from Fairlight in Sydney’s north has been mixing ever since he experienced the magic of a good Trance set. “Right from the early clubbing days I could head out straight as an arrow and have a huge night getting lost in the music. I remember wanting to be able to bring the most energetic and mood lifting sounds to people in my own unique way. The easiest way to do this was to start spinning,” he says. Citing local DJ’s Nervous, Nick Fish, Pee Wee Ferris and Jumping Jack as major influences early on, as well as International producer’s Cosmic Gate, SHOKK and Hennes and Cold, he has developed his own Goose style, and when he is able to take to the decks solo his aim is to really show people a broad range of trance and the harder styles, keeping them on the edge of their seat through the trip. Just like Dutch DJ Tiesto, whose live sets have inspired him recently with their capacity to take you on a journey. Thus far Goose has graced the up and comer decks at several Breed parties at Bondi, which are a monthly showcase of Sydney’s freshest talent. “The atmosphere is unbeatable and the crowd is always so energetic,” he says. The parties are put on by Grooveinc.com, and Goose says without them, up-and-comers would have much more trouble breaking into the industry. “Movements such as grooveinc.org, Breed and Local Heroes have given many up-and-comers a chance that they would normally not have received. These, coupled with all the DJ competitions, are unearthing endless talent in Sydney at the moment.” The exposure Goose has received through Breed has taken him onto bigger and better things, including New Year’s Day party Hard On @ Metropolis and more recently Revelation @ Space. “They were both great experiences. It makes such a difference to play on a bigger system to a larger crowd. Interacting with the punters in numbers and receiving energy back from them can make a set,” he says. This particular Goose certainly has his heart set on great heights, saying he would love to make it to international status as a DJ and possibly even producer eventually, but his head isn’t totally in the clouds as his career and studies presently come first. “I will always keep the stars as my aim in anything I undertake. If you reach for the stars but only get to the moon you are still out of this world,” he says. Very wise words for a Goose! So why exactly is he called Goose? He blames his school buddies. “Back in year 11 there was a girl I was interested in but just couldn’t quite get to. I chased her for a while, and she was aptly named the Golden Egg. After I finally convinced her to go out with me (and what a lovely 6 months it was), I was donned the Goose,” he says. With trance diversifying very quickly in Sydney at the moment, expect to see DJ Goose mixing up his unique sets behind some decks near you! “Trance is expanding very quickly in Sydney at the moment. You have the euphoric trance lovers, the hard trance lovers, the hard-style lovers and then everything in between. I think it is an amazing time, giving us up-and-comers the opportunity to push a truly unique sound,” he says. DJ Goose will be kicking off the upcoming Transmission party in the up-and-comers room with Requiem. For more info on Transmission check out ITM Whatson.
