He is just about to release a new mixed CD on Central Station Records and start a national tour for the release, which will be keeping him busy for a while yet. I recently caught up with Flipside to find out about it all.
What have you been up to over the past couple of months?
I’ve been busy getting the Ultimate CD together and working in the studio. I’ve also been doing the odd gig here and there in Sydney and interstate.
You have recently decided to focus back on more of an Uplifting Hard Trance sound. Can you tell me more about this decision?
Yeah I have gone back to a more uplifting sound in general whether it is harder or softer trance as long as it is still driving I will incorporate it into my sets. Hardstyle for me has become very same old same old. I really love Jumping Jack’s sets these days the guy is unbelievable.
Do you think this sound will be making a big impact on the Sydney scene in the next year? Compared to the past year where things have been quieter with this sound?
Yes I think the trance sound in general will come back as hardstyle is quite repetitive and doesn’t have a lot of soul to it. A lot of better hardtrance is being produced again.
How would you best describe the sound you play at the moment?
It’s a mixture of uplifting trance and hardtrance depending on were I’m playing at. At sounds on Sunday it is very uplifting but at Sublime it will be more driving.
You are just about to release a CD called The Ultimate on Central Station records. Can you tell me more about this?
It’s a four disk CD with myself doing the Sydney leg, Mr Bishi (steve hill) doing the New Zealand disk, Miss Tracey (System 6) doing the Brisbane disk and Ajax (Hard Kandy) doing the Melbourne disk. I think this is the first time a CD has been done in this format so it’s going to be great.
Will there be a national tour for this?
Yes the tour runs over the end of July and August and we are having 6 tour dates (see below for dates).
Did you have to keep in contact with the other state’s to see what their plans for the CD was, to make sure they were all unique?
Central station pr department did most of that work and my manager Troy from seismic frequencies and transmission did most of that work as they organised the tour and licensing.
You have recently made a new track with Mick Ferris called Devastation. Do you have plans to release this track officially? Do you plan to work on more productions together?
The track came about really well and is the 13th song on the disk. Mick is a great up and coming talent and gets a lot of great advice from his cousin’s John and Pee Wee and he works really well in the studio. I plan to work more with him and also to get in the studio with Steve Hill in the next couple of months and learn more from one of the best producers around.
What has been your most memorable set?
There are a few that spring to mind, Sublimes 7th birthday, main stage @ Transmission, main stage @ Two Tribes 2003 and Xcite in New Zealand (Wellington) in 2002 would be the ones that stick out for me. Also the hard dance CD tour last year with Paul Holden was great. It had something like 15 dates in two months; it was crazy, of one plane and on to another. I have never done anything like it.
What has been the funniest thing that has happened to you whilst DJing?
At Godskitchen last year, a friend accidentally tripped on the plug and shut down the whole system. She avoided me for a couple of weeks.
What are your top 5 tracks at the moment?
Cloud Nine – Transmission (G&M Project mix), Ferry Corsten – Right of way, Abel Ramos – Aquarias (randy katana mix), Marcel Woods & Shokk – Tulips and Chocolates, Sa Vee Oh – no hacker exe.
What are you’re plans for the next half of 2004?
I’ll be working on finishing the tour for the CD and then I’ll start preparing for a busy summer season of DJing. Then get ready for my next CD release that is in January with Central and be more productive in the studio.
