She is one of Australia’s hottest upcoming DJs and he has already established himself as a household name in the dance community. Together they make a great team.
In recent months, DJ Chia and Yoshi have joined forces to produce a fresh new track, ‘Turned to Dust’. So far the track has enjoyed much success and has been picked up by superstar acts such as Lisa Lashes, The Tidy Boys and BK.
Chia says it’s a pretty awesome feeling to know that artists such as these are playing something that she created. Yoshi says its ‘wicked’.
“Its pretty exciting considering we’ve both been playing their tracks for years, it’s a good feeling to know that now they’re playing ours!” Chia says.
After only a couple of late nights and an hour here and there, ‘Turned to Dust’ was born. The UK’s Billy Bunter got hold of a copy and fortunately for Chia and Yoshi, he liked it. ‘Turned to Dust’ was signed to his label XCITE a short time after.
22-year-old DJ Chia started her career in Brisbane where she became one of the most popular and well-known performers in the Brisbane scene. During her rise to the top in Brisbane Chia travelled interstate several times where she played at some of the biggest clubs around the nation including Hard Kandy, Bubble and Altitude.
Her talent became evident around the nation and in early 2003 Chia was invited to move to Sydney and join the Independent Reflections DJ Agency. She moved in with fellow Independent Reflections member, DJ Yoshi and the pair decided to produce together.
Yoshi is no stranger to Australian dance music enthusiasts. He’s a favourite on dance floors all around the nation and has even been fortunate enough to take his talents to London in both 2000 and 2001.
‘Turned to Dust’ is Yoshi’s fourth vinyl release to date but for Chia this is her first production ever. She says it’s a great feeling.
“I’m stoked!” Chia says.
Yoshi says that working with someone else is a great experience because the other person brings additional influences and perspectives that gives the production new direction and variation. Chia says its good because you’ll always end up with a finished product that you would never have produced on your own.
Yoshi is known for his uplifting driving trance and Chia is renowned for her rolling hard beats. ‘Turned to Dust’ is a reflection of both artists. They describe the track as bouncy, tough hard dance. Yoshi says its perfect for a three am time slot.
Both artists say that they have intentions to work together again but they’re both so busy it’s hard to find the time. Right now though, they are busy working on their own individual pieces.
Chia and Yoshi both hold down residencies at Sydney’s Gas nightclub. You can find them there every weekend. Right now though, the pair are touring extensively around the nation to promote the release of ‘Turned to Dust’.
Catch them in Brisbane at Family nightclub on Friday 22nd October.
