What do you get when you take nine electronic music artists from all the genres on offer and throw them together? UK underground collaboration Bugz in the Attic is what you get.
When an outfit manages to make it self-known worldwide without even having released a debut album you know they must be doing something pretty special.
With an album of remixes about to hit the market and an imminent tour of down under not far away, ITM caught up with one of the boys from The Attic to find out what they’re all about.
How did such an eclectic mix of artists get together?
There was no plan as such. At first their was only six of us and for one reason or another we just naturally came together through our common interests, and from wanting to explore new things. We all came from different electronic scenes, some from house, some from drum and bass, and found that we were bored and dissatisfied. So coming together we were able to push the boundaries, so to speak, and make some good music.
Despite not even having released a debut album as yet, you’ve had amazing success as producers, and you’re about to release ‘Got the Bug’, which is a collection of remixes. Tell us a bit about the CD.
It’s a compilation of remixes, these are all pieces of music made for the dance floor, its all soulful dance music. It obviously isn’t an artist’s album, its electronic dance floor stuff with great vocal stuff.
So with nine DJs in the team how do you continue to produce great music without a clash of personalities affecting the group dynamic?
With us all being individuals certain problems do arise from time to time, but its not like we are all working at the same time in the studio. If one of us is especially good at something then that person will do the work and vice versa. We do however share a central core that’s holds us together, as well as a healthy respect for each others work.
You guys are about to head down under to play your second consecutive Good Vibrations Festival. How did you find last year’s festival, and are you excited about returning this year again?
We had an absolutely great time at Good Vibrations last year. Really looking forward to it this year, the vibe was amazing.
