It’s time for the girls to show what they are made as “Tickled Pink” is launched this weekend in Melbourne. For their opening evening the all female residency will be taking on the house genre on the Saturday 2nd July. To get an idea of what’s going to go down we got some time with the organiser Danni B to see what’s going to be pink and tickled.
It’s definitely a male dominated world out there on the decks at the moment; it’s great to see a showcase highlighting some of the extensive female talent. What prompted the beginning of the ‘Tickled Pink’ concept?
Well there isn’t really anything like this around at the moment that I’m aware of & I have a few chick friends who love playing tunes so it all seemed perfect. We are all so passionate about our music & we all get along really well & always have a good time, I think that will really show on the night. I thought it was about time the ladies took over.
Anyone who has seen the likes of Sister Bliss or Mistress Barbara will know that female DJs deserve just as much respect both on he decks and in the studio when compared to their counterparts, what can we expect from the residents?
I’ve seen both of these ladies play before & have been so impressed. It was when I first saw Sister Bliss play that gave me the idea to buy decks myself. Mistress Barbara has such an energy behind the decks & I think that’s fantastic. I think because female DJ’s are the minority, when they are DJ’ing they nearly hit the roof! Us three girls have so much fun behind the decks, that’s what Tickled Pink is all about.
Word Bar has not been used for a regular club night before, what made you go for the place?
Well I actually stumbled across this venue at a work function a year ago. At that time I already had a few ideas going around in my head & when it all came to play this venue was definitely my first choice. It has a real relaxed atmosphere, kinda homely & it’s the perfect size for what I want. It has a real class about it & that’s definitely the vibe I want for Tickled Pink.
Every month the girls get to choose their ‘Flavour of the Month’ whereby you get a dishy male DJ to join you, need I ask why you chose Keltec for your opening night?
Well because Keltec rocks basically! He has this amazing flair for getting the dance floor moving & he is always funking it up. He was definitely the first male DJ that came to mind when I was in the early stages of planning, I’m just so glad he could accept.
Where do you hope to take Tickled Pink in the future, especially in regards to the female showcase?
Well obviously I’m hoping the opening night is a huge success. This is definitely something I am excited about & I’m hoping everyone else will be too. I have so many ideas in my head & I’m hoping I get the opportunity to give them all a go. Miss Chris, Sass & myself will definitely be sticking around for a while & I have a few other female DJ’s in mind to ask to play in the future.
What kind of people need apply?
