The purveyors of Funk, PTYLTD are heading to Melbourne this weekend for an evening of funk filled insanity, plump beats and spatial organ reverberations.   Lady Lex gets the lowdown from PTY LTD headquarters.

Tim Tainsh, Bass player and leading vocals of PTYLTD remarks that it has been a prolonged 12 months since their last performance in the wonderful city of Melbourne, and, understandably, the PTYLTD trio are eager to be reacquainted with a metropolis that understands the true meaning of funky phat beats. Whilst it may have been a year since PTY LTD’s pilgrimage to the southern city, the last 12 months have certainly not been torpid. In fact, the words “Torpedo” and “Meteor Rising” may in fact be closer to the mark.

Since the birth of PTY LTD in 2001, the combined efforts of Tim and Daniel Tainsh (no you are not seeing double) and Peter Golikov have spawned a spectrum of atmospheric proportions. Releasing their debut album ‘You Should Be Like This More Often at the end of 2003, PTYLTD were then unleashed on a mini world tour touching down in cities including Kathmandu, Tokyo, LA and Chicago. “Treat Me Like That” and “Elevator Lovin’” were also released as singles, with astonishing encouragement from the likes of DJ Blade of Jesto Funk, JT Donaldson, and Derrick Carter – among others. PTYLTD have also graced the stages with such feature acts as Moloko, Dimitri from Paris, Carl Cox and JJ Hernandez. And thus they reach the Night Cat stage with the next album due for release and an impending launch of  their next single “Trying To Leave” – which has inspired remix collaborations with Crazy Penis, Craig Obey, Julian Love and Goodwill. Well met indeed!

With such accolades and honours accumulated in such short spaces of time, PTYLTD are champing at the bit to show Melbourne the reasons for their good fortune. Acknowledging their funk roots, PTYLTD combine nu-skool funk techniques of dance and electronika and augment this with spatial key effects. Whilst such luminous talents can not be denied via the studio, when placed on a stage, the live performances of Tim and Daniel Tainsh enhanced by the profound presence of Peter G prove to be certain stellar feats.

Do yourself an incredible favour and serve your ears an ambrosiatic treat: PTYLTD are at The Night Cat on Friday August 5th.
