Wally Lopez can be regarded as the one responsible for the current surge in the Spanish house scene. Wally has done numerous re-mixes this year alone and he’s just finished his debut album.  Where’s Wally now?...

AJ: How did you get into the industry?

My entrance was with a very small radio station because I loved to speak with the people. It wasn’t for the love of music which is a funny story.

I got all the records from my cousin and started at the tender age of 13.

AJ: How did you get into broadcasting?

Probably because I like to communicate to the people. I started to make the show and then to make my own music.

I felt great doing the show. After I went to a club that had great lighting and sound equipment I started playing my music there.

I had great publicity about the music that I played. So I bought a Emira 500 and started to make music the way the people heard it in the club.

AJ: Who has inspired you over the years?

In the beginning I think because there wasn’t too many people doing this in Spain.

So it was something really new and strange. Now my inspiration is from being happy doing this and getting ideas from my travels.

After the spate of #1 remixes and recently voted “Best Newcomer” at this years Ibiza DJ Awards…

AJ: What are you working on at the moment?

I’ m in the middle of promoting my new artist album.

I did all the tracks thinking of a whole night in Pacha. From the warm up to the peak time!

I am now busy releasing the singles and promoting the album. So I’m not working on many tracks at the moment. I spent a year doing the album.

We’ve got Pete Heller and Pete Tong doing the remixes and they’ll be released soon.

AJ: Do you have any favourite venues?

I love working in Europe and have had great times in South America as well. My first time in Australia was fun and I hope to add it to my favourite places to visit.

AJ: How was Summer 2005 in Ibiza?

It was HUGE!

Every year it is getting bigger. The hippies have left and it’s becoming more commercial. The club scene is dynamic in summer but is very quiet in the winter months.

The dance scene isn’t dieing it’s just changing. Ibiza is experiencing a change for the better!

AJ: Most embarrassing moment whilst DJing?

None really…

I like to have everything under control!

AJ: Are you still doing a radio program?

Yeah,

I do my program for Spain. I’m also doing it in Spanglish and exporting to Holland, Malta, Columbia and Ecuador.

AJ: Are you looking forward to touring Australia and playing in Sydney at the PACHA NYE 2005 @ HOME alongside Roger Sanchez, The BodyRockers & Sarah Main?

I’m really excited being a part of the event. I’m really good friends with The Body Rockers and Sarah Main and a good relationship with Roger.

I think it’s going to be a great night!

I’ll be a long way from home and will miss my family but I hear that the Australian people are really friendly. I hope they will make me feel at home.

AJ: What sort of a set can we expect for the tour?

I don’t think too much about that before I do it. I just do my best and hope the people love to dance and enjoy the event!

Have FUN – that is my idea of the tour!

AJ: With such a varied career, what do you see your future directions being?

Nice question…

I really don’t know?

May be in two or three years try and make an album like a band and try to do concerts. But I’m not ready for that yet.

AJ: If you weren’t in the music industry, What would you like to be doing?

Doing my own label and looking for artists… I love them!
