Tronikelesch are a quartet of electronic musicians who have individually been producing music under differing monikers in an assortment of genres for many years now but have recently joined forces under the banner of Tronikelesch as the resident live act for the Techno night ‘Technoir’.
The individual members are Simon Judd-Mole (Patch Pocket), Damien Collins (‘99’), James Moran (Jimmy Kane), and Greg Solomon (Carnival Creation), each of whom bring with them a diverse range of influences such as Heavy Metal, Prog Rock, Post Rock, Electro-Techno, Synth Pop, New Wave and many, many more. Trönikelesch’s mainly hardware based set up is indeed a feast for the eyes, featuring instruments such as a Theremin, several sequencers, drum machines and outboard synthesizers from various periods, as well as a laptop. This all results in an eclectic collection of fun, yet moving melodic flavours for the dance floor, whilst still staying true to the party vibe.
Amongst their credentials so far; Tronikelesch headlined Technoir’s Boxing Day party at the Lounge last year, played well received sets at the local electronic-music day party, “Alive”, as well as at the infamous Lectro party. Also Jimmy Kane’s remix of Daft Punk’s track “Technologic” made it into a top ten list of the most played tracks on Kiss Fm for 2005. Over the last year the group has played as residents at the night Technoir alongside other live guests such as Honeysmack, Bubble & Squeak, Steve Law, Voiteck.
Who or what is Tronikelesch?
Tronikelesch are a 4 piece electronic band who thrive on epic melodies and synthetic sound generators
Describe your sound
Our sound is probably best described as big in terms of production and melodic progression. Extensive repetition bores us and a good foundation of tension is as important as a big release for us (not to say that you will hear any shit trance build ups out of us). In general terms our sound is ‘electro’ but we are willing to incorporate sounds from most sub-genres as long as it’s appropriate to the song at hand.
What are some of your major influences?
Due to the fact that there’s 4 of us, to list all our favourite acts would take a whole, but we all come together in the fact that we all enjoy the most epic and pretentious of groups. From Iron Maiden to Yes, to Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Nine Inch Nails.
What does your live set-up entail?
A lot of hardware, and a little bit of laptop. The freedom of hardware to trigger and tweak on stage gives us the nervous energy we need to perform as opposed to just pushing play and scratching our/each other’s balls/teste satchels.
What’s your favourite gig?
We can’t really agree on a favourite at this stage; James really liked lectroland, Simon really liked aLive, Greg really likes playing at Technoirs but we were all really excited and honoured to open for Human Nature at the Erinsborough formal in ’99. Damien still thinks that Prince was the best concert he’s ever seen.
What can people expect from your set at Technoir this Saturday?
Technoir like to serve it up a bit harder than our usual sound. We gonna run with this on Saturday and turn it up a notch or 2 but keep in touch with our melodic grounding that keeps us ticking.
You can see Trönikelesch Live at Technoir @ Mercat Cross Hotel this Saturday 15th July and on Sunday 5th August at LOUD at Honkytonks.
