As usual, it’s been less than a year since our fave Gallic playboy-spy was last seen ripping up dancefloors across our shores, and already he’s planning to sizzle his summer away in much the same fashion as the last five… by getting down and dirty Down Under.

There’s something noticeably different about the Mr Sinclar speaking to me down the line today. He’s different to the polite and softly spoken man I caught up with a year ago. Could it be his advancing fluentness in the English language? Although this is also an obvious change since we last spoke, I think the confidence coming from within stems from something else. Could it be the fact that over the last year his fourth studio album, ‘Western Dream’, has been a runaway success, making Sinclar a household name worldwide? He’s now got teens scribbling his name on their school books and plastering their walls with his face. Yep, I definitely think that’s more likely to be the cause of his happy and easy going vibe today.

“It’s a good year,” notes Sinclar of his non stop list of achievements, the latest being an award for ‘Western Dream’ at the World Music Awards a few weeks back. Winning the aware has still got him a little lost for words. “I mean, as an artist, you hope that people will receive your music this way and to have some success, but you never really know how it will go, so it’s always a surprise.” ‘Surprise’ would have to be one of the understatements of the year, as last summer’s anthem ‘Love Generation’ shot straight to the top of playlists around the world, paving the way for ‘Western Dream’ to follow it’s lead into platinum sales territory. “I’m just happy to be still doing what I love and know that people are loving it and requesting me to come play in their countries,” he adds with smile in his voice. “Music is my passion, my everything, so to be recognised for it is an amazing feeling!” Although Sinclar’s frequent flyer points have clocked up an unthinkable amount of Ks over the last few months, Australia still remains one of his favourite destinations to frequent. “I love Australia! I’m happy to be requested to return so often,” he breathes happily. “Some of my best memories are from festivals in Australia, with everyone singing along, it’s such a loved feeling,” he shares.

Although Sinclar’s year has become a little more hectic than he’s ordinarily used to, he’s taken it all in his stride, finding it easier to work from dawn till dusk on several projects at the same time. “I get up and open the office at 8.30 each morning and spend all day working away and creating, I don’t feel like it’s work,” he laughs. Over the past few weeks his main babies have been a forthcoming chapter in the Defected CD series, which will see Sinclar coming up trumps with a ‘Playboy Mansion Mix’, and two brand new singles with Gary Pine (of the Wailers fame, his most frequent vocal collaborator) fresh for the picking. “I also have a filmclip to work on in the next few weeks, it’ll be the last from the album.” As you may have noticed the filmclips from the album have been running with a bit of a theme, featuring the same cute kid and miniscule cameos toward the end by Sinclar. “Yeah, we found David [the teen in question] in Canada through a casting on the internet, cause we were going to be shooting in the US and Canada. He’s been great to work with, so we kept him involved. My appearances are a little bit Alfred Hitchcock though,” he laughs.

After a tough few months of touring, both alone and more recently with Gary Pine, Sinclar is happy to have some time off in Australia to relax a little and party our nights away. Unfortunately being New Years it doesn’t look like the timing will work for Pine to join him this time “It gives us an excuse to come back earlier,” he laughs. But in Sinclar’s well endowed record bag will be a whole host of fresh tracks and brand spankin’ mixes to create dancefloor mayhem. “I can’t wait to see Bondi Beach again, it’s going to be a magical night!”

Bob Sinclar returns to create dancefloor havoc in Australia this summer:

Jan 1 – Sounds on NYD, Sydney

Yeah, cant wait for Chris (Bob) to come out here over NYE. He may have gone a bit more commercial this year, but good on him for raking in the cash!

yeah, I think he has the best of bothe worlds...he hasn't lost his more dance cred by going commercial and is still continuing with the ongoing Africanisms project...which will just attract a little more exposure these days...couldn't happen to a nicer gu
