Kicking off our coverage of the 2007 Miami Winter Music Conference, inthemix recently spoke with Dutch producer and DJ superstar Armin Van Buuren. At the beginning of an American tour, Tim Hardaker caught Armin at his New York hotel in between landing from Trinidad, and playing Manhattan superclub Pacha that night.
As one of the world’s most revered DJs, consistently ranking among the top echelon of the annual DJ Mag Top 100 poll, Van Buuren revealed how he’s approaching 2007 a little differently after a relentless touring regime last year, what direction he’s taking with his music, and perhaps most excitingly, his plans for an Australian ‘Armin Only’ style tour in June!
Armin plays two parties in Miami for the Winter Music Conference. First up he’ll be playing for 6 hours as the sun sets on the Pawn Shop terrace, Friday March 23. then on Saturday March 24 he’ll be headlining the All Armada night at Twilo, with support from Markus Shulz, Matthew Dekay and Rank 1.

Respect. Every time I hear Armin talk, it reminds me of why I rate him as the best DJ in the world. So good to hear him say he's going more instrumental (melodic). Good on Armin for sticking to his guns... maybe one day Aussies will realize that trance is where it's at.

"Simplicity, good production, fewer sounds, and I think I’m going back to that element… " The man is consistently pushing the genre forward IMHO, even in going back to trances barest elements he inspires and invigorates simply through his expression, for me that is what sets apart a great artist from a good one…great interview!
