STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

In a word, Melbourne band The Bamboos are prolific. With the dust on their acclaimed debut ‘Step It Up’, released in 2005, having only just settled, and with the band’s head songwriter Lance Ferguson unleashing his first solo album under the name Lanu earlier this year, they’re now preparing to unveil their sophomore LP, ‘Rawville’.

Gaining solid support from the international funk fraternity, since forming in 2001 the band have played alongside the likes of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Russ Dewbury, Moloko, Alice Russell, Quantic, Keb Darge, Dynamo Productions and more. They’ve also found their music given the thumbs up from Mr Scruff, Snowboy, Jazzanova and Kenny Dope.

Signed to UK label TruThoughts, their profile internationally continues to grow, and at the start of May they’ll be returning to Europe for a grueling tour across the continent. Tim Hardaker caught up with Lance to talk about funk down under.

‘Rawville’ is out now on TruThoughts/Creative Vibes. Keep an eye out for launch dates with the band in June, once they’ve returned from their European tour!
