STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
Since breaking through in 2005 with their single ‘Zdarlight’ (quirkily titled so as to stand out from the 2001 track by the Supermen Lovers with the same name), fans of the electro sound have been waiting with baited breath for Digitalism to drop their debut album. After 2 years, they can finally exhale, as the German duo will release ‘Idealism’ this month.
Often likened to the titans of electronic music, Daft Punk, Digitalism have been tipped to cross-over to mainstream success with the release of their debut, and on the strength of its first single ‘Pogo’ it’s not hard to see why. Written and recorded inside a concrete bunker, with ‘Idealism’ Jens and Ismail were careful to produce an album that was a complete whole, rather than the unfortunate standard for many dance records which end up sounding like a slapdash compilation of tracks. Ismail talks with ITM’s Tim Hardaker about the challenges of translating the success of their club tracks to the album format.
‘Idealism’ is out now through etcetc/EMI. Get the full lowdown on Digitalism’s new album at ITM’s Artist In-depth page HERE, where we’ve got a feature artist podcast, ITM-FM mix, film clip for ‘Pogo’, and more! Digitalism will tour Australia in September and October for Parklife:
