After a year of dedication and hard work is finally paying off as Interview Productions hosts its first event in a series of special parties designed to explore the elements that are within us all. Starting off with Earth, future parties will include the elements Wind, Fire & Water, as the Interview crew take us on a journey through sound and visuals.

Featuring some of the finest local and international talent on offer, element Earth features headline acts including Decoy live, Chwen from Mexico and Australia’s very own Ozzy. Supporting them in this first chapter of the Elements saga will be local talent including Ben Evans, Steve May, Blinky live, Jules Plees, Gavin Martin, Mike Nichol, Sasha Petrovic, Julian Reynolds and more.

Only a year after Decoy’s debut album ‘Not Responding To Light,’ Ian Chaplin and Phillip Rex are following up with their second instalment. Due for a winter release, ‘Push Button Pony,’ is set to be even bigger then its predecessor. Garnering superfluous amounts of inspiration from playing at parties and experiencing the talent of locals, Decoy is constantly pushing their sound, admitting “dance music is evolving at the same rate as technology itself.”

Already gaining remix duties for one of the biggest names in Psy, Vibrasphere, it doesn’t stop there as an upcoming tour of Europe will see there Live show play to new audiences. Similar yet different to many other Progressive Psy producers, Decoy’s Jazz influence was the focal attraction for Seb and Marcus of Son Kite, who assisted in getting their first album released last year and have now also, collaborated on a couple tunes. Featuring a live percussionist, live bass and soprano saxophone, their live show at Interview will be one not to miss, “As to what you might expect is up to the listener. Hopefully, no glitches!”

Recently journeying from his home in Mexico to explore the country of Australia, Javier Ponce aka Chwen may share his name with the Mayans word for the creative and magical monkey, but this young Psy-Trance DJ has more to offer. Slowly moving into producing, this highly spiritual explains how music “... [Has] truly opened my mind to the concept: Music is Math is everything.” With a non linear outlook on music, Chwen describes his encounters with Psy-Trance to be both profound and spiritually uplifting.

With a focus on creating a flow which is not only organic, magic and also super-funky, Chwen’s experiences from regularly attending parties back home is infused in his sets yet when asked what we will hear from him at Earth, “A magician never reveals his secrets.” Look forward to a journey into music, spirit and magic the expresses what Chwen believes in and what he has experienced.

For any fan of local Psy music the name Ozzy will be a familiar one. From humble beginnings playing his first gig at a friend’s party to running his own Psy-Trance label and regular parties it’s been a long journey for the Australian DJ producer. Now with his label coming up on its seventh release, the number should a lucky one as Ozzy is also preparing for his next big event at Hi-Fi Bar on the 7th of July, 07/07/07. “Triple Sevens are usually associated with luck so we are hoping that the days luck will rub off on all who attend,” and with a showcase line up it should be a special evening indeed.

But for Ozzy it wasn’t love at first sight as he recalls first hearing Psy mix tapes and not understanding how these sounds were music, he admits that as time went past he grew to appreciate all the fine aspects of the genre and more recently all the sub genres that have appeared. With Tribeadelic being host to one of the biggest festivals, the label has earned itself a well deserved reputation and it’s no wonder Ozzy believes our local Psy producers have a bright future ahead. With the prospect of one day finishing his elusive album, there’s a bright future in the scene for Ozzy and Tribeadelic.

There will be only three more shows after Earth and in the words of Chwen, “It’s no wonder there’s such a concentration of talent in Melbourne,” and there’s no wonder there’s such a concentration of talent on show at Interview: Elements.

Interview EARTH is on Sat 30th Jun @ Brown Alley
