STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
‘New rave’ is undoubtedly one of the buzz genres of 2007, thanks to the worldwide success of so-hot-right-now bands like the Klaxons and Cansei de Ser Sexy. It’s interesting to note, however, that for all the pomp and circumstance so far the USA has remained almost deathly quiet while the sub-genre explodes into pop-culture. Could Shy Child be America’s first new rave outfit? Maybe… but not if you ask them; they’re trying to steer clear of the tag.
Having toured with bands like Hot Chip and the aforementioned Klaxons, as well as opening for superstars Muse at Wembley Stadium, it’s been a wild ride for Shy Child up until this point. Recently the duo (made up of longtime friends Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith) packed up their drum kit and keytar and made a bee-line for London, setting up shop for the European summer to assist with touring. They’ve just finished their first ever visit to Australia, and while the band had some downtime in Melbourne ITM caught up for a chat.
Shy Child’s album ‘Noise Won’t Stop’ is out now through Wall Of Sound/PIAS and Liberator Music.
