He’s been one of Australia’s most highly regarded DJs for quite some time, with an imposing list of accolades to match, including #5 DJ on the inthemix50 in 2004, and nominations and awards for Best DJ, Best Compilation and Best Radio Show at the DMAs throughout the earlier part of this decade.
Shiny plaques and trophies aren’t his only achievements, however, as Phil has also worked damn hard to establish his reputation across the globe. He’s known in equal amounts for both his technically mind-blowing DJ skills and hotly praised production work with Luka Chable as LoStep, and he’s also been a longtime collaborator with Pioneer, pushing their groundbreaking DVJ series of turntables.
Recently nominated as one of the world’s ‘Top 10 Video DJs’ by UK clubbing bible Mixmag, Phil is understandably quite chuffed with the title, especially considering it sees him compared to the likes of Coldcut, Richie Hawtin, Hexstatic and Sander Kleinenberg. ITM’s Mo’Funk caught up with Phil for a chat before he heads to the US this month.
