Foreshadows Productions was formed in 2006 with a vision to “put on some rockin’ parties” in the form of the monthly club night One A.M. After a three month hiatus One A.M. burst back on to the local dance music scene in February this year, complete with a new home at Heat Nightclub. ITM’s SparklingSam caught up with Jeremy from Foreshadows to find out about their latest international booking and what else we can expect for 2007.

So there have been quite a few changes for Foreshadows this year with the move to a new venue and with a new crew taking over the reigns behind the scenes. How challenging has it been taking over? Can we expect a different look and feel to One A.M. events in the future?

Yes it’s been a bit of a challenge. We had some very successful nights at the old venue which meant big expectations to carry on that momentum. With the changes made this year at Heat they have been very accommodating to us. We settled in upstairs as we found the more intimate ambient vibe up there suited the One A.M. crowd. With regards to our new crew members, we have taken seamlessly to the role. Emily and I both come to Foreshadows from a DJing and promoting background with years of experience. We have brought with us some fresh ideas and contacts which mean exciting things for the future.

The Mortal Realistiks have developed quite a following amongst the Perth dance music scene and seem to go from strength to strength with each performance. How important is their contribution to the success of One A.M.?

The two Mortal Realistiks boys are not only resident performers but also the driving force behind everything that Foreshadows has done to date. I think this symbiotic relationship is a huge part of why Mortal Realistiks and One A.M. have developed such a following in Perth. Nick aka Mortal Flow is still at the helm of Foreshadows and the pair will continue to feature regularly at our parties.

Perth seems to have a growing contingent of outstanding female DJs and Foreshadows has been showcasing this with a One A.M. “Battle of the Sexes” earlier this year and with the forthcoming “Ladies’ Night”. Did you have a hard time persuading the Mortal Realistiks to give up their regular slot in favour of the ladies? Or was it that they refused to frock-up for the evening?

Hahaha. I’d pay good money to see them in a dress, the question is would anyone else? No, the guys are only too happy to hand the decks over to support our growing local female talent. Our last ladies night in 2006 was a huge success, the girls killed it and this year is set to be even better. Get down and show our girls some love!

As well as the hot local line-up for One A.M. “Ladies’ Night”, Foreshadows have booked their second international act for the year, DJ Niuniu, the first female electro/house DJ to call mainland China home. For someone so young (23 years) she has an impressive list of support slots to her name and has been described as having genre-defying technical and creative abilities. Tell us more about DJ Niuniu.

Yes, we are very excited to have secured the services of Niuniu for the 28th Sept. She’s a vibrant young lady and a talented hard working DJ to boot. Originally from Canada, she grew up immersed in the music scene there with her brother who developed local bands such as Nickelback. After picking up DJing in college she started to get regular gigs on the Vancouver club circuit. She took off to China in the summer of 2005 on what was meant to be a 1 month tour. Two years later she is still there. Out of her home-base of Shanghai, she has become a key figure in the development of China’s club scene, helping turn it into the global phenomenon it has grown to be. Expect creative technical mixing featuring a blend of electro, tech-house, tribal and everything in between.

Foreshadows staged a successful southwest tour last year. Are there any plans in the works for another tour? Can you give us any hints about forthcoming gigs? What does the remainder of 2007 hold for Foreshadows and One A.M?

Yes the Point Break tour was a lot of fun. I can say that we do have another installment planned for November so keep your eyes out for details to be released. We will be continuing with the Monthly One A.M. parties with some fresh new talent and new ideas. This summer will see a one-off Foreshadows’ party with a difference and in 2008 we have some big international acts planned to hit our shores. Stay tuned!
