One of Melbourne’s finest, Grant Smillie is no doubt one of Australia’s most recognised DJs. Snagging the #7 spot on this year’s inthemix50 poll, he was also quite chuffed to see TV Rock – his collaboration with Ivan Gough – sitting pretty as #2 on the new Most Popular Producer category. It’s the culmination of many years hard work for Smillie, but as he explained to ITM’s Angus Paterson, definitely not the peak of what he and Gough hope to achieve.

Touring the country at the moment to launch his new ‘Audio Riot’ mix CD, including playing this weekend’s inthemix50 event in Melbourne, the man that most know simply as ‘Smiles’ spoke about TV Rock’s desire to translate their chart topping sound to European audiences, and what he sees as the next wave of music following electro house’s current dominance.
