STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

They’re one of the breakbeat scene’s most notorious duos, having well outlived the hype of big beat to remain relevant – and, not to mention, exceedingly popular – into the new millennium. They’ve released several albums and countless mix CDs, even attaining mainstream chart success with their 2004 single ‘Push Up’, and they’ve toured Australia too many times to mention, both as DJs and with their full live band.

Late last month they released their latest album, the launch of a new series titled ‘A Different Story’. The CD aims to connect the dots on the history of breakbeat, with tracks from across the genre’s broad spectrum of influence. From electro to rave, big beat and hip hop, it’s all there, expertly meshed with a healthy dose of acapellas and samples.

They are the Freestylers, and they’re bigger than ever! ITM tracked down Aston of the duo for a chat about the history of breakbeat, and where he sees it heading in the not-too-distant future.

‘A Different Story Vol 1’, mixed by the Freestlyers, is out now through SUSU/Stomp.

Check the clip for ‘Painkiller’, their recent single with Pendulum, below!
