Malente [Audio]: He's still got the funk

STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Hailing from the central German town of Malente, which – to state the blatantly obvious – is where he takes his nom de plume, this Teutonic turntable terror has experienced something of a renaissance since refining his funky style into a sleeker electro direction circa 2004. Initially making a name for himself courtesy of funky breakbeat stormers like ‘We Came To Party’, since shifting his focus and unleashing electro infused dancefloor destroyers such as ‘Killer Applikation’, his profile has continued to ascend.

ITM tracked him down recently to talk shop, finding out what brought about his change in direction, and his opinion on the German electronic music scene in general; is Berlin over-rated? He also reminisced about his 2006 tour on the Good Vibrations Festival where he headlined the DJ tent, and also let us in on the secrets behind his forthcoming summer tour and brand new live show.

Malente tours Australia this summer, debuting his brand new live show at selected dates:

Dec 31 – Chinese Laundry, Sydney
Jan 1 – Field Day, Sydney (Live)
Jan 5 – Summafieldayze, Gold Coast (Live)
Jan 12 – Block Party, Canberra
Jan 18 – Halo, Hobart
Jan 19 – The Court Hotel, Perth (vs Kid Kenobi)
Jan 20 – Sounds On Sunday, Sydney
Jan 27 – Harbour Cruise, Sydney
