STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Pnau have a well earned reputation as one of Australia’s most capable live electronic acts, and after the release of two albums – 1999’s ARIA Award winning ‘Sambanova’, and 2003’s more adventurous ‘Again’ – they’ve spent the past few years in hibernation. That’s not to say they’ve been sitting around wasting time, as core members Nick Littlemore and Peter Mayes have kept themselves busy as proverbial bees with more side-projects and studio work than you can shake a stick at. Pete focused his attentions on his band The Hate Game, while Nick collaborated with Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson as Steelemore and with Pip Brown as Teenager.

With a renewed sense of vigour towards Pnau the duo regrouped in 2007, teaming up with Nick’s brother Sam (uber-producer to the stars – Gwen Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Madonna and Robbie Williams – and also one half of Tonite Only with GT) and setting to work on their third LP. The album is released this month and sees them at home with a brand new record label. It’s appropriate that it’s a self-titled release, as it’s the sound of a band with a reignited passion for what they’re doing. Tim Hardaker tracked down Nick recently while the duo were hard at work in the studio, talking about his new and improved excitement for all things Pnau.

Pnau’s brand new self-titled album is out now through etcetc/Universal. If you’d like to get a taste be sure to check out inthemix’s Pnau feature artist podcast HERE.
