STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
One of the most successful exports of the Chicago house music scene, it’s interesting to note that Gene Farris has – for the past few years at least – been based in Amsterdam. Not exactly a hub for his particular brand of underground house music, but as Gene explained told ITM’s Tim Hardaker recently, the location was more out of necessity (so he could tour Europe easily) than anything else. His love for the green stuff Amsterdam’s so renowned for didn’t hurt either.
Now back at home in Chicago after a few years in The Netherlands, Farris is once again spreading the gospel of the Chi-Town sound alongside fellow house music luminaries like Derrick Carter. Speaking with ITM ahead of his return to Australia this month, Farris gave the lowdown on the Chicago sound at present, as well as speaking on how the city differs in vibe to the once mighty techno epicentre of Detroit.
