STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
When the big names start flapping on about how Digitalism, MSTRKRFT and Justice have “revolutionised electronic music”, 9 times out of 10 they’ll end up mentioning German producer Boys Noize (aka Alex Ridha) in the same breath. At only 24 years of age, the young Berliner has achieved more in his short career than many of his contemporaries could hope to accomplish in an entire lifetime.
He’s had MySpace messages singing his praise from Daft Punk, and tastemakers likes Soulwax and Erol Alkan talk up his production work far and wide. He’s also – arguably – one of the artists to have kicked off the bum’s-rush of cookie cutter electro acts that now choke the scene, breaking through with his cult reworking of the Bloc Party single ‘Banquet’.
Now well established, with a slew of 12” releases on his own Boys Noize Recordings imprint and remixes for artists like Depeche Mode and even Marilyn Manson, Ridha recently released his debut album ‘Oi Oi Oi’. After a rousing debut tour of Australia at the beginning of 2007, thankfully we haven’t had to wait too long between drinks, as he’s heading back this month for another national tour.
‘Oi Oi Oi’ is out now through Boys Noize Recordings/Inertia. To get a taste be sure to download inthemix’s exclusive podcast featuring his track ‘& Down’ HERE, and don’t forget to experience the madness yourself when he tours the country this November:
Thu Nov 22 – Empire, Brisbane
Fri Nov 23 – Bakery Artrage, Perth
Sat Nov 24 – Harbourlife, Sydney
Sat Nov 24 – Killer, Melbourne
Sun Nov 25 – Round & Round, Brisbane
