STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Cutting his teeth under the mentorship of the ‘legendary three’ Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, DJ/producer Stacey Pullen was an innovator from the ‘Second Wave’ of Detroit techno. And now it looks like things are coming full circle, with Pullen himself prepping the third wave of techno talent. In 2007 he rebooted his Black Flag record label and besides getting back in the studio himself, he’s been steering some emerging names that he thinks are going to have a major impact.

Back in the country for the Stereosonic Festival in Melbourne and an intimate club gigs in Sydney, there are few individuals in dance who more experienced and articulate than Stacey: as he says himself, “maybe I should sit down and write a book one day.” ITM talks to Stacy about his plans for the record label, his opinion on the minimal house movement and we also find out what he thinks about the more commercial variations on house music we’ve been hearing in clubs around the world.

Are you ready for the Third Wave? Get yourself a taste at the following shows around the country…

30th November: Rubix @ Yu, Sydney
