STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW
There are some bands out there who pride themselves on their keen musicianship. The Soft Tigers are not one of those bands… in fact, they pride themselves on the exact opposite; proudly proclaiming that their general disregard of musical knowledge helps in fostering their creativity, rather than hindering it.
The trio – who hail from Canberra but formed in Sydney – have released one of 2007’s most wildly eclectic albums, and it’s one they set to work on with a clear and distinct goal in mind; they wanted to make an impact. Have they succeeded? It really depends who you ask… But with the amount of attention they’re getting from the indie underground, it seems they’re well on their way. ITM’s Tim Hardaker gets the story.
‘Gospel Ambitions’, the debut album from Soft Tigers, is out now through Below Par/Virgin. You can catch them playing the following festival dates this summer:
Dec 31 – Falls Festival, Victoria
Jan 25 – Big Day Out, Sydney
Jimps says...
Love the album really well produced, but saw them live and never before have I seen a band struggle more in reproducing their sound. They need to get a couple of new members in the band who can hold them together musically live.
