STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

While he’s been firmly entrenched in electronic music since the 90s, the last few years have been Dave Spoon’s time to shine. The man known outside of dancefloors as Simon Neale debuted on Toolroom Records in 2004 with the 21st Century EP, and has steadily become a sure-bet for big-room club bangers.

Hailing from Portsmouth in the UK, Spoon is best known for his crossover weapon At Night. Favoured by everyone from Pete Tong to Tiesto(!), the tune went gangbusters, landing its creator DJ slots at some of the world’s best clubs. Since then, he’s kept busy with a growing portfolio of electro-house cuts and high-profile remixes for the likes of MIA and Dizzee Rascal

Amazingly though, Spoon has never played a major festival slot – something that’s about to change when he tours Australia over the New Years Eve period. Here he speaks to ITM’s Jack Tregoning about his rapid rise through the house ranks, as well as sharing mixing duties with Mark James on the new Summadayze CD.

Summadayze 2008, mixed by Mark James & Dave Spoon, is in the stores now through Ministry of Sound/EMI. Catch Dave Spoon at the following dates around the country:

Monday 31 December – Pacha NYE, Home Nightclub, Sydney
Tuesday 1 Jan – Summadayze, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne
Saturday 5 Jan – Summafieldayze, Doug Jennings Park, Gold Coast
Sunday 6 Jan – Summadayze, The Esplanade & Supreme Court Gardens, Perth

And just in case you managed to miss it this year… Here is the clip for Dave Spoon’s all-conquering smash At Night.
