With seven albums to their name and another in the works, De La Soul is not a group to trade on past glories. Since their landmark debut 3 Feet High and Rising, the trio has mixed offbeat humour with intelligent rhymes, making classics out of Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey), The Magic Number and Me Myself and I. While other crews drop off, Pos, Dave and Maseo still genuinely enjoy making music together.

And as a live act, De La Soul are the ultimate good-time guys. They’re a bona fide favourite on the Australian festival circuit, and will be returning this New Years Eve period to get the party started. Here ITM’s Jack Tregoning speaks to Pos about both the group’s legacy that they have behind them, as well as what lies ahead.
