No doubt one of the most unique identities to have emerged on the music scene in recent times, almost 5 years after his critically acclaimed breakthrough album ‘Boy In Da Corner’ UK rapper Dizzee Rascal continues to maintain an enviable position as one of the UK’s most outspoken and remarkably interesting characters
2007 saw him release his third album, ‘Maths + English’, seen by many as a triumphant return to form after a somewhat lackluster response to his sophomore LP ‘Showtime’. Featuring collaborations with artists as diverse as Lily Allen and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, the album sees him juxtaposing the underground grime sound of the UK with elements of crunk and southern US rap.
Heading to Australia as part of the Big Day Out, ITM’s Tim Hardaker recently spoke with Dizzee as he celebrated the conclusion of his record deal with XL. After three albums, he’s now a free man, and he’s feeling proud with his achievements to date. It’s not all he has in store, however…
