STREAMING AUDIO INTERVIEW

Credited with merging the sound of dancehall with the modern influence of electro, South Rakkas Crew have worked with a rather amazing list of artists to date, called upon for their inimitable take of “electronic dancehall” by everyone from DJ Shadow, Beck and Lily Allen, through to mega-selling popstars like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Even though they’ve built a reputation based on such a unique sound, it’s interesting to note that they feel it’s all happened rather organically, Dennis ‘Dow Jones’ Shaw telling ITM that it was simply a matter of combining “what we were in to”.

It’s a sound that’s found them favour across the world, with the blogging and social networking community at large going crazy for their rather unique sound. As a result they’ve been touring and performing at some of the globe’s coolest venues in recent times, like Fabric in London and Studio B in New York, and with the influence of outfits like CSS and Bonde Do Role, a more ‘worldwide’ approach and understanding to music seems almost inevitable. Dow Jones speaks with inthemix ahead of South Rakkas Crew’s first ever Australian tour.
