Before you think to make the witty remark that Brimingham-via-New-York-via-Sydney DJ and producer Carl Kennedy shares his name with a certain character on Channel 10’s long-standing TV soap Neighbours, think again, as he’s heard it all before. “I get that all the time mate, all the time! Apparently he [actor Alan Fletcher] is pretty big in the UK, touring with his band!” Carl laughed to ITM when speaking with us about his brand new mix CD for the Future Music Festival, compiled alongside Robbie Rivera.
Of course your more serious Neighbours fans will no doubt be aware that the TV doctor spells his first name with a ‘K’. And, perhaps more importantly, he’s not actually real… but regardless, it doesn’t stop people making the correlation. For the first time ever, though, Kennedy was able to recount a situation where the mistaken identity was reversed. “When I check in for planes they’ll say, ‘oh, like the doctor?’ I was trying to be cute two weeks ago and said, ‘Carl Kennedy, like the doctor,’ and she went, ‘no, like the DJ’... the tables have started to turn a bit!”
