2007 was without a doubt the year of the Midnight Juggernauts. Taking up the indie/dance baton that was carried by Cut Copy and The Presets in the years prior, they capitalized on all their hard work slogging it out on the live circuit when they released their debut LP Dystopia. Featuring Triple J favourites like Shadows, Road To Recovery and Into The Galaxy, their first album was a bonafide smash hit and the band took it a step further in he summer of ‘08, playing mainstage at a range of big-ticket festivals like Meredith, Falls, Field Day and of course, the national traveling circus that it the Big Day Out.

And the next step? They’re taking their music to the world. While they tested the waters last year with a slew of dates in Europe and North America, they revealed recently that they had inked an international licensing deal that will see their music distributed right around the world courtesy of EMI. And to support it, they’ll be relocating to Europe for some extensive touring during the rest of the year, with the trio set to play headline shows across the UK, France, USA and Japan.

So off they go, then. But will the Midnight Juggernauts be showing us some love before they head overseas? You bet. They’ll be embarking on a ‘Farewell Australia’ tour of the East Coast next week, waving goodbye to their fans before they embark on their overseas sojourn. ITM’s Angus Paterson had a chat to Vince Juggernaut while he was in the thick of their Big Day Out tour, to find out in detail what they’ve got planned for the rest of ’08, as well as to squeeze out a bit of info on what we can expect from their eagerly-awaited follow-up album…
